Gumball, the podcast ad marketplace tied to Headgum, is adding indie show Almost Adulting with Violet Benson to its roster. The Russian-born comedian and internet personality shot to fame when in 2014 she created an anonymous Instagram account called @DaddyIssues. Nearly eight years later, she’s grown into a multi-million dollar business with more than five million people around the world, with her Almost Adult podcast being part of the portfolio.
“I was looking for a business partner that allowed me the creative freedom I needed to be authentic myself in order to better connect with my audience,” Benson said. “It was an obvious choice for me to work with Gumball because of how they streamline the sponsorship process and allow their creators the freedom to create what they love.”
On Almost Adult – which was previously known as Too Tired to Be Crazy – Benson covers pop culture, features celebrity interviews and focuses on monthly topics such as mental health, career, protests, theories conspiracy, LGBTQ+, sex, dating and breakups.
“Supporting independent creators on their journey to growth and profitability is in Gumball’s DNA,” Gumball CEO Marty Michael said in the announcement. “We’re proud to bring Violet’s show under the Gumball banner and continue to champion its success.”
The deal was brokered by United Talent Agency, which recently signed Benson.
“Gumball is the perfect partner to help elevate Violet’s voice as she continues to grow her brand in the audio space,” said UTA Audio agent Shelby Schenkman. “When she signed with us, we knew it would be the best next step as she grows her business.”
New episodes of Almost Adulting are released every Thursday, with bonus episodes released every other Tuesday.
