There are many targets in the Spirit War raging around everyone. But young and innocent souls are the top priority of God’s enemies.
Children are targeted by the culture of death, the so-called LGBT ideology, and Marxist politicians. But they are also directly targeted by the same supernatural beings that gave birth to these perverse movements: namely, demons.
In March, Australian’s Sky News reported a grandmother claims to have captured the image of a demon standing above her grandson’s cradle. While some people are skeptical as to whether this is in fact an image of a demon or a case of photo manipulation, there is some truth behind such a story.
The devil wants to destroy the innocence of young children because their pure soul reflects the goodness and holiness of God. The Evil One cannot attack God, but he can attack those who reflect the goodness of God.
We talk a lot about the obligations of children to their parents. But there is hardly a word about the obligations of parents to their children.
When a child is conceived, God breathes an immortal soul. From there, the person has an eternal destiny – a massive responsibility for the parents of the child.
Grand Archbishop Fulton Sheen described the responsibilities of parents in this way: “When a child is given to its parents, a crown is made for this heavenly child, and woe to the parents who raise a child without awareness of this eternal crown!”
The Catechism of the Catholic Church, in paragraph 2223, goes even further to describe the responsibilities of parents towards their children: “Parents have the primary responsibility for the education of their children.” He adds: “Parents should teach their children to subordinate the ‘material and instinctive dimensions to the inner and spiritual dimensions’.”
Paragraph 2223 also describes the environment that parents must provide: “They first testify to this responsibility by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity and selfless service are the rule”.
The devil wants to destroy the innocence of young children because their pure soul reflects the goodness and holiness of God.
Paragraph 2225 further states: “By the grace of the sacrament of marriage parents are given the responsibility and privilege to evangelize their children.”
God and the Church both teach the serious obligation of parents to train their children in virtue and charity. If parents remembered that the souls of their children were in their hands, perhaps more parents would be more serious about their own eternal salvation.
