Launch of the INFLUENCE podcast

According RADIATION founder and host Lebo Madiba, the idea was to launch the platform as a philosophy that can counter the polarized conversations that currently dominate the media.

Madiba says, “It’s about conversations in a changing world and being a driver of intelligent thought and engagement. We may not always have the answers at our fingertips, but in this highly connected, we have access to networked intelligence. It is in this space where we can gain perspective and clarity.”

According to the podcast, it took two years in the making and is led by a stellar team of communications experts and content producers. In each episode, Madiba speaks to global leaders, innovators and thinkers in business, technology and politics.

Madiba adds that INFLUENCE The basic principle of networked intelligence is based on the open source ideas of:

  • collaboration
  • transparency
  • sharing, and
  • accountability.

“Sherry Turkle, the author of Retrieve chat, said intelligence meant possessing sensitivity, sensibility, conscience, discernment, reason, insight and wit. Today, the definition of intelligence is twisted to look like cunning. With RADIATIONI seek to apply Turkle’s definition of intelligence,” says Madiba.

According to the podcast, while Madiba is aware that RADIATION competes for listeners with thousands of other podcasts around the world, few of which seek to build a united human movement that aims to care for each other and the planet.

“We live in a world where we have at our fingertips all the information needed to ward off conflict and climate change. The trick is how we can access this information and turn it into knowledge with sensitivity and sensitivity needed to solve our most pressing challenges,” adds Madiba.

Madiba seeks to expand RADIATION in the near future to include seminars, conferences and dissemination points to a knowledgeable and curious public.

ESG and RADIATION
Whereas RADIATION covers topics on business, technology, politics and communications, its main theme is environment, social and governance (ESG), which runs through each episode.

Madiba says she is a proponent of the ESG principle because she believes that environmental and social justice are increasingly taking center stage in the business world. It is quickly becoming a determining factor for sustainability-conscious investors and for consumers who want to buy ethically sourced and produced products.

Madiba adds that the world is experiencing many challenges at once – from the Covid-19 pandemic, the conflict in Ukraine and environmental disasters such as the floods in KwaZulu-Natal – which means we urgently need to change our behavior.

“Through conversation, we can face these challenges head-on, seek clarity, and define perspectives that would eventually lead to action. We don’t talk to each other. And if we talk, it’s hardly about the important things that are good for We need to be kind to each other and treat the planet with more respect,” says Madiba.

Communication as an agent of progress
Madiba has been in the communications business for nearly two decades and is the founder and CEO of PR Powerhouse. She says she believes communication drives progress and that a platform that encourages direct and open conversation is a boon in a democratic society.

Madiba adds: “What we need in today’s social and political climate is a frank discussion, a discussion that pushes aside the left-right political spectrum and partisan allegiances, and lays bare our thoughts and ideas that can move humanity forward”.

RADIATION aims to counter the online bubble in which we only hear the ideas we already know and prefer.

Madiba says: “The virtual world can give us many opportunities to connect with each other, but there is very little discussion. RADIATION will be that space where an enriching conversation will take place.”

“In his essay The progressive production of thoughts while speaking, poet and philosopher Heinrich von Kleist says that we can foster meaningful dialogue through skillful questioning and that if appetite comes from eating, ideas come from speaking. As host of RADIATIONI take his aphorism to heart and have applied it to every episode,” Madiba concludes.
