Echoverse, a podcast studio focused on sci-fi, supernatural and fantasy audio experiences, has signed actress Kate Mara to star in its latest series of scripted supernatural thrillers Necropolis. Mara, who has starred in TV series such as “House of Cards” and “A Teacher,” will also produce the audio drama.
Necropolis follows Sarah Bishop – played by Mara – who, after a dishonorable discharge from the military, moves with her two children to a small town in California to work as a deputy sheriff. Her hope for a peaceful new beginning is thwarted by a series of increasingly disturbing supernatural phenomena that seem somehow connected to her personally and begin to threaten the entire town.
Mara is no stranger to podcasting. Sher earlier starred in C13 Features’ Ghostwriter series alongside actor Adam Scott. Mara also stars in a new series called The Big Lie for Audible and Fresh Produce Media. In an interview earlier this year, Mara reflected on her podcast work. “It’s different from doing a real movie or being the voice of an animated series, which is so much fun, but you rely so much on the visuals. It was something very different to experience,” Mara said.
Necropolis will be executive produced by Project X Entertainment’s James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Paul Neinstein and Nicole Tossou.
“We’re always on the lookout for projects that push boundaries and create conversations,” said Tossou, executive vice president of television at Project X Entertainment. “It was a great collaborative experience with all the partners involved and we couldn’t think of a better home than Echoverse to tell this story.”
The podcast story is an adaptation of the short story written by Brian Miller, best known for writing the 2011 sci-fi horror film “Apollo 18.”
“With Brian Miller’s writing depth, Project X’s production expertise, and Kate Mara’s ability to portray complex and nuanced characters, we feel like we’ve found the perfect team to bring this this chilling story,” Echoverse President Mark Stern said. in the ad.
