Jacqueline Wilson reveals Tracy Beaker character is “clearly gay”

Jacqueline Wilson talked about her Tracy beaker series, confirming that Tracy’s adoptive mom Cam is gay.

The first book was published in 1991 and was about 10-year-old Tracy, who lived with a foster family nicknamed “ The Dumping Ground ” before being encouraged by author Cam.

Talk to The independent, Jacqueline explained, “Anyone who reads between the lines of Tracy Beaker’s early books [would see that] his adoptive mom Cam, in my opinion, is clearly gay.

“In the older books, when Tracy is grown up and has her own daughter, Cam makes a really beautiful girlfriend.

“I thought it was about time she had some fun in her life too.”

Tracy has featured in numerous book suites since the first was published, as well as the popular CBBC series.

Dani Harmer has taken on the lead role and will be reprising it soon for a new series coming to CBBC about Tracy’s daughter.

Adapted from the 2018 book My mom Tracy Beaker, the series follows an adult version focusing on Tracy’s career and her relationship with her 12-year-old daughter Jess.

Jacqueline explained: “I don’t want an ‘absolutely everything is really wonderful’ ending – after all, at the start of the first book, Tracy herself says that life is not a fairy tale where everyone lives happily ever after.

“I deal with adults who lead adult lives, and I want to be honest about all of this. But she is my lucky character … and I also have a soft spot for her. “

The author, who has also written popular books including Double act, The illustrated mom and Girls in love, previously revealed his own sexuality earlier this year while discussing his new book Love Frankie.

The story centers on Frankie, a tomboy who falls in love with a girl in his class.

“I have never really been in any kind of closet, ”Wilson said at the time.

“It would be such old news for anyone who ever knew anything about me.” Even the most vague acquaintance knows perfectly well that we are a couple.
