David Thwaites to Lead TV and Film Arm for Studio Audio Up Podcast – Deadline


EXCLUSIVE: Audio Up, the podcast studio behind series like Anthony Anderson and James Ellroy, is accelerating its steps into TV and film.

The company, led by Jared Gutstadt, has hired Halloween and Black Swan producer David Thwaites at the helm of his fledgling motion picture division.

Thwaites was tasked with helping create scripted audio series with established writers and overseeing film and television development and production for its IP podcast.

Audio Up Series Features Sci-Fi Synth-Pop Musical Sonic Leapled by Anderson, The Playboy Interview with Michael Shannon, Midnight at the Sun Diner with Shea Whigham, Ellroy’s Hollywood death Travel and Bedtime Stories from the Ingleside Inn with Jason Alexander and Lance Bass as well as halloween in hell featuring Machine Gun Kelly and Uncle drank with Dennis Quaid and Gary Busey.

The company has a number of partnerships in this area, including a deal with MGM Studios, which invested $4.5 million in the company in 2020, and a film and television partnership with fledgling management and production company Range. Media Partners.

Thwaites has spent time working for Peter Berg and Michael Lombardo’s Film 44, Miramax and Mike Medavoy’s Phoenix Pictures and recently produced John Ridley Needle in a stack of timewith Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., Freida Pinto and Orlando Bloom.
