“Blue’s Clues & You” just released a song for kids that features an animated version of a “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star… leading a song about Pride and Inclusiveness Month.
Nickelodeon posted the video on Friday – days before June 1, which marks the debut of Pride – and it features a cartoon of Nina West, who is a favorite ‘Drag Race’ fan, leading to vocals – recounting a parade that passes her in the background.
The song touches on the makeup of different families that fall under the LGBTQ + umbrella … including households with two fathers, two moms, non-binary children and more.
Words like “ace”, “queer”, “trans”, “bi,” pan “and other identifying terms used in the community are sprinkled everywhere – and the song doesn’t shy away from them … noting that they can all be part of a loving family. All families are made up of different animals – alligators, sharks, turtles, birds, cats, etc. – that wave / swing rainbow flags.
Now the overwhelming reaction to this appears to be positive … with many people taking to social media to praise ‘Blue’s Clues’ for their progressiveness – and taking proactive steps to teach children about the different family structures of ‘a fun, eye-catching way that pleases. to young children.
On the flip side, there are some who are holding their pearls on this … but they are mostly drowned out by people saying it’s a good thing Nick / Nick Jr. is doing.
Remember, Nickelodeon has previously indicated that some characters in their own pantheon – including SpongeBob SquarePants – could be is part of LGBTQ + world themselves, or at least allies. So it’s really not too hard for them to get Blue on as well.
